Start planning for National Reconciliation Week: 27 May - 3 June 2025: Bridging Now to Next

A time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

Year 6 RG unit Lets go Fishing - Visit the Cairns Aquarium

In Term 1 students in Yr 6 at CSS investigated fish species and their survival needs. They explored habitats in which they live and identified how changes to the physical conditions of the habitat e.g. by pollution, can affect the growth and survival of fish. Students identified fishing rules and investigated sustainable fishing practices. Students used their knowledge about fish growth and survival to inform decisions about fishing and sustainable fishing practices. Students had the opportunity to visit the Cairns Aquarium viewing fish they had been studying! Student also created placemats for a local restaurant informing tourist on a species of fish. They used publisher to create their placemats.

Start planning for World Turtle Day on 23 May by registering for one of our FREE ''All about Sea Turtles'' webinars. 

Gain an understanding of the biology and adaptations of sea turtles, including their life cycles and feeding adaptations. We will examine the impact of marine debris and look at how sea turtles are affected by other human threats worldwide and what actions are being taken to help protect sea turtle populations.

The Reef Guardian Schools 2025 Eco Challenge is now OPEN!

Eight unique STEAM challenges for students in years 4-12 to choose from. 

Aligned with the UN Sustainability Goals and the Australian Curriculum. These engaging marine-themed challenges inspire students to Care, Learn, Act and Share (C.L.A. S=S) their passion for the Great Barrier Reef, and reef’s worldwide, fostering future reef stewardship. 

Prizes will be awarded for each challenge, and students can become an Eco Challenge Champion by completing them all. Plus, every entry will go into the final draw to win a GoPro action camera!

FREE to enter. Closes September 23rd, 2025.
